OPTISHAPE-TS Supports An Automotive Company In Handling Complex Structures And Reduces Identification Time To One-Third

The development team at a major automotive company partnered with NewtonWorks to handle complex structures and reduce time on identification to one-third. Learn how.

The development team had been focusing on developing brakes that never squeal. OPTISHAPE-TS is utilised for the correlation of vibration properties for each component within the analytical model.

After introducing the software, it enables them to analyse the correlation by setting the shape as a parameter, which was an extremely difficult task to do by hand.

The collaboration has proven successful through two important achievements.

Handling a complex structure

OPTISHAPE-TS can extract the shape of components with multiple eigenvalues and is effective, especially for a calliper, which has a complex structure.

Accelerating and improving the accuracy of identification

OPTISHAPE-TS enables them to reduce time on identification to one-third and exceed the target accuracy level. Since they were able to reproduce the brake squeal, they could come up with countermeasures.

Numerical optimisation was the common approach among their team, but there were some limitations.

We proposed software that allows the optimisation of the shape instead, which ultimately led to its adoption. If the discrepancy between the experimental and simulation results is consistent throughout, adjusting material parameters is effective.

Whereas the software is useful, especially in the case where there is a particular mode that needs to be fitted, as it can automatically identify the areas that need modification and determine the extent of the changes.

Naomichi Taketa, Account Manager at NewtonWorks Corporation, says,

“We collaborated with the development team to find a solution, offering flexibility without faltering on our extensive industry know-how for complex and historically difficult structures.”

As a result, they were able to reduce the time of correlation. Our support has contributed to their development process and has been able to fulfil the expectation.
